After booking in for a fitting determined to change his driver for the 2017 season, our main fitting goals were to reduce the spin rate to create a more piercing ball flight, and also to prevent his misses to the right. The Titleist 917 fit the bill on this occasion! The D3 model was the more desirable head shape for Bryans eye, with the loft set to D3 to make the club 1.5 degrees more upright & the draw weight inserted into the head to take the right hand side of the course out of play. Obviously Bryan just had to have the matching 3 wood to go with his driver, in which we opted for extra loft in the 16.5 degree model as Bryan always had trouble getting it up when it's needed…
When playing with Bryan a couple of years ago, we noticed the flight with his irons seemed to dip mid-flight. We then did a quick fitting and realised he was not creating enough spin to give the ball its lift. We then switched him into a lighter, graphite shaft in his Callaway Apex CF16 irons to help create more speed and spin, which produced a much stronger, higher ball flight. On this occasion, a 4 iron was not required as there was no yardage gap between his Cobra rescue and 5 iron, but an ‘A’ wedge was required to fill the yardage gap between his PW & 56 degree wedge.
Bryan was treated to a Scotty Cameron putter by his lovely wife Lynn for his 60th birthday this year. We fitted him up for a face balanced squareback model select head, in 32.5” length and 2 degrees flatter. To stress how important it is to get your putter fitted for you, for every 1 degree the lie angle of your putter is out, your putter aims ¼ of a cup out from 6ft. As you only have half a hole tolerance when aiming in the middle, if your putter is 2 degrees out, you could hit a perfect putt and still miss!
Thank you for sharing your set-up with us Bryan! If you would like to book a fitting and have your clubs set-up for you like Bryan did click here to do so.

Moliwood go to Battle for Top Spot The European Tour will be hoping to match the excitement of the PGA Tour’s finale, with the Race to Dubai close to reaching its season-ending climax. Fresh from their exploits in the Ryder Cup, the ‘Moliwood’ pairing of Francesco Molinari and Tommy Fleetwood are busy occupying the top two spots, with Molinari holding a 1.4 million point lead over Fleetwood, who triumphed in the Race to Dubai last year. Also in contention are Patrick Reed and Rory McIlroy, with the former looking to prove that his Ryder Cup display is well and truly forgotten. Reed will be more at home in the arid conditions than he was at Le Golf National, so he could be one to keep an eye on. It should be a great ending to what has been a memorable season. |
A Bone of Contention for Golfers Double hitting is a bone of contention for golfers, as it can be difficult to tell when a playing partner has hit the ball twice. The current rule for double hitting (14-4) states that if a player strikes the ball more than once during a stroke, the player must count the stroke and add a penalty stroke for two strokes altogether. However, with the new rules of golf coming into play on 1st January 2019, Rule 10.1a will state that if the player’s club accidentally hits the ball more than once during a single stroke, there will be no penalty. This is down to the fact that as the double hit was not the intention of the player, it was deemed unfair for the player to be penalised. |
