It's all change in 2019 Currently, if you’re unfortunate enough to tread on your ball while looking for it you incur a one-stroke penalty and have to then drop your ball as close to its previous position as possible. The new rules have been proposed to make the game both fairer and less off-putting to new golfers. Consequently, under the new rule (7.4) there is no penalty if a ball is accidentally moved by anyone during a search or while trying to identify it. As before, you must recreate the original lie, which if not known must be estimated. |
